House N2 Home is a nonprofit organization based in Washtenaw County, Michigan, dedicated to transforming empty houses into comfortable, functional, and welcoming homes for individuals and families transitioning out of homelessness. We rely on a network of dedicated volunteers and generous donors to bring warmth and dignity to our clients’ new beginnings.

Using donated (and occasionally purchased) furniture and household goods, our team helps convert a house or apartment into a home, creating a space where individuals and families have the opportunity to thrive.

Position Summary:
The Operations Manager is a pivotal team member responsible for overseeing the day-to-day logistical and operational functions of House N2 Home. This role ensures our client management system, storage facility, donation flow, vehicle scheduling, and staff and volunteer activities run smoothly and efficiently, supporting our mission of creating homes for those in need. The ideal candidate is organized, solutions-oriented, and passionate about making a difference.

Key Responsibilities:
Daily Operations & Oversight

Develops overall daily operational plan
-
Review and execute daily operational plans with the Storage Coordinator
-
Provide support to Storage Coordinator and Volunteer Coordinator
-
Schedule vehicles and Heavy Lifters
-
Update online schedules and whiteboards daily
-
Adapt to last-minute changes with flexibility and calm
Donation Coordination
-
Respond to donor inquiries regarding furniture pickups and drop-offs within 24 hours
-
Accept or decline donation items based on organizational needs and standards
-
Communicate regularly with Director, Storage Coordinator, and Room Leads regarding inventory
-
Schedule donation pickups and coordinate efficient routes for pickup teams
-
Liaise with Day Leads to manage and track donation drop-offs
-
Maintain donor communications, including inputting emails into Constant Contact and writing a donor newsletter three times annually
Client Coordination
-
Print referrals for vetted clients and add to whiteboard and TIF
-
Prioritize clients based on referral date, move-in date, and client needs (age, children, abilities)
-
Collaborate with leads in client selection and service planning
-
Coordinate bed set-ups and assignment of volunteers and Heavy Lifters
Heavy Lifter & Vehicle Scheduling and Fleet Maintenance

Create and manage schedules for client move-ins and donation pickups
-
Assign Heavy Lifters to specific tasks and communicate daily expectations
-
Collaborate with Storage Coordinator on secondary responsibilities for Heavy Lifters
-
Allocate vehicles for daily tasks and ensure their upkeep and proper use
Communication & Team Coordination
-
Welcome and brief Day Leads and Heavy Lifters each morning
-
Check in each morning with Volunteer Coordinator and Storage Coordinator
-
Share key information with both on-site and remote volunteers
-
Update Management Team on daily operations, staffing needs, client and donor needs, and any operational inefficiencies
Administrative Tasks
-
Manage vehicle documentation, driver orientation, and road testing
-
Maintain performance review schedules for all paid staff,
-
Schedule and reserve meeting spaces as needed
-
Enter donor check information into DonorBox and maintain paper records
-
Oversee documentation processes and verify hours and scheduling accuracy for staff and volunteers
-
Ensure forms and paperwork are readily available and up to date
-
Maintain ADP payroll system, including adding new employees into the system and making bi-weekly payroll
-
Independent contractors (pay and approval of hours)
Continuous Improvement
-
Seek and suggest ways to improve operational workflows, communication, and client services
-
Collaborate with the Management Team, Heavy Lifters, and volunteers to implement improvements
Qualifications:
-
Proven experience in operations, logistics, or nonprofit coordination
-
Excellent organizational and time management skills
-
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
-
Strong problem-solving ability and comfort with dynamic, fast-paced environments
-
Proficiency technology including using online scheduling tools and database management
-
Comfortable working with diverse populations and volunteers
-
Valid driver’s license; coordinating transport logistics
-
Must pass a background check
